Rory Gallagher - the original Celtic Lion

Another fave of mine who has all but disappeared from the mainstream is Rory Gallagher. Rory was a talented performer who played a dozen different instruments but he was first and foremost a guitar player.

Though most well-known as a rocking electric guitarist in the great 70's arena tradition of British blues players like Richie Blackmore and Jeff Beck, this video highlights a bit of Rory's acoustic slide playing on a Dobro-style resonator. It also highlights another reason he was so beloved, his great charisma. Rory was the epitome of the Irish entertainer: charming, humorous, handsome and usually half-drunk. This song s in fact a good-natured tribute to the demon alcohol.
