Matching set of Kay Value Leader Guitar and Bass in Boston for $500 - Nice!

This is a very cool matching set of Kay electrics from the mid 1960's - both are Value Leaders one is a six-string two pickup guitar and the other is the more rare Electric bass.  Both also include the original case.  It sounds like the current owner is a collector and has cared for them well.   This is a rare opportunity.

This is a matching set of mid-60’s era Kay electric 6-string guitar and 4-string bass. Each is semi-hollow body with matching sunburst finish and maple-like fretboard and maple-like adjustable bridges. I do not really know the actual wood type. The guitar and bass and matching original ttwo-tone cases ( bass is brown and beige and guitar is black and beige)are in remarkably preserved and identical condition. I acquired them as a set and I suspect they have always been together as a set given that the condition of the cases and the instruments are the same as each other. The finish is shiny and with very few small nicks, the frets are unworn, the necks are straight (and have truss rod adjusters), the bindings are perfect and matured to a very nice vintage cream color, the chrome is very good and the machines are tight and strong. The tolex covered board cases look new on the inside and out except for a small stain on the hinge side of the bass case-the handles, catches and hinges all work fine and the stitching is all intact. There simply are no significant issues with the instruments and the cases yet they are 45 years old!

Both instruments appear to be fully original, there are no repairs or parts replacements evident to me. They both play and the electronics work wll although teh tone control for the lower pickup on the 6-string doesn't seem to change the tone much if at all. Check out the “V” and “T” vintage volume controls and the three way switch on the 6-string for the pickup control (neck, bridge, and both) -very cool. Also pretty cool is the identical scaling of both instruments-you don’t see a 24” scale bass every day. Or with ruby red fretmarkers!

This matched set has been in my collection for about 10 years. Not surprisingly they have not been played much or gigged-never left my house. Circumstances require that I thin my collection down some so that is why they are for sale.
